THE CONTEXT
Businesses without time to look
Small and medium-sized businesses rarely have time to investigate how water is used on their premises. Leaking toilets can go unnoticed for long periods, and urinals with no controls, or faulty ones, keep flushing outside operating hours.
THE CHALLENGE
Reaching SMEs cost-effectively
Yorkshire Water wanted a scalable, cost-effective way to reduce avoidable consumption across its non-household customer base. The programme needed to secure appointments, find the sources of waste and fix as many as possible during the first visit.
our approach
Find it and fix it on the first visit
We targeted SMEs in selected sectors where these problems are common, reaching them through outbound calls, canvassing, enquiries and web requests. In total, 11,750 appointments were booked.
An Aqualogic plumber then carried out a focused audit on the areas most likely to deliver quick savings: toilets and urinals. Plumbers carried the products and parts they needed, so 87% of interventions were completed there and then. Anything that could not be fixed was referred, and 923 of 1,327 referred jobs have been completed.
Power BI dashboards tracked engagement, appointments, audits, products, leaks, urinal controls, referrals and estimated savings.

what this proves
Simple fixes, large savings
Estimated annual water use across the audited sites fell from around 1.318 billion litres to around 1.007 billion litres, a 24% saving or about 0.85 megalitres a day.
Toilets and urinals delivered most of it: around 692,377 litres a day from toilets and 145,994 litres a day from urinals.
A sector-based find-and-fix model makes water efficiency practical for SMEs, with no complex project for the customer and fewer return visits.
